Shimla, Jun 5 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today blamed the UPA Government at the Centre for hiking prices of petroleum products and rising prices of essential commodities and said this was affecting the common man the most.
"The recent hike in the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders has made the lives of common man difficult following a phenomenal rise in the prices of food commodities," the Chief Minister said while addressing mediapersons here.
Mr Dhumal said it was the duty of the Central Government to take remedial steps to check the prices, but instead it had parked huge sum of money in oil pool, which otherwise could have been used to control the prices.
"The central government should also initiate steps to make states financially independent to meet such exigencies without which the state governments would not be able to check the prices of essential commodities," he said.
He said ever since the UPA Government came to power the prices of food items have been rising consistently, putting unnecessary burden on the common man.
Reacting to news reports that local stockits of petroleum products were creating artificial scarcity of LPG, petrol and diesel by hoarding them, he said his government would take strict action against all such dealers.
''The state government will take punitive action against those dealers who are hoarding essential commodities,'' he added.
