Cong says LF's calling bandh smacks of "political fraudulence"
Kolkata, Jun 5 (UNI) Mocking the Left Front, the Congress today said the Front's ''dual'' policy of simultaneously supporting the UPA Government at the Centre and calling ''Bangla Bandh'' to protest fuel price hike was nothing but ''political fraudulence''.
Addressing newspersons here, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Manas Bhunia alleged that the prices of fuel and cooking gas were hiked after several discussions with the Left parties.
With the global oil price soaring everyday, the Union Government had no option but to go for this marginal hike only to save the poor people of the country, he opined.
Questioning the justification for such bandhs, Mr Bhunia averred that both the Left Front and Trinamool Congress were engaged in a competition for calling bandhs and said the bandh in no way could lessen the hike.
If the Front was so pro-people, it should have withdrawn the cess and additional surcharges to alleviate the burden on the people, he stated.
