Lahore, Jun 5: Pakistan fast bowler Muhammad Asif has been dropped from his country's squad for the tri-series starting in Bangladesh from June 8, after it was concluded that it would take "a couple of days" for him get released from detention in Dubai, a PCB official said last evening.
Authorities are conducting tests on an allegedly illegal substance found in his possession, added the official. India is the third team participating in the tournament. Pakistan fast bowler Sohail Khan has replaced Asif in the16-member Pakistan squad for the tri-nation series. "Logistically, it is difficult to send Asif to Bangladesh now," the Daily Times quoted the PCB official as saying.
Asif was detained at the Dubai Airport on Sunday while possessing illegal drug hashish. He was flying to his home country via Dubai from Mumbai after participating in the IPL'S Twenty20 tournament.
This was the second time when Asif has been found involved in illegal drugs-related case. A couple of years ago he was accused of consuming stamina-enhancing drug nandrolone, along with his team mate Shoaib Akhtar.
