AP reports highest number of HIV/AIDS cases
Visakhapatnam, Jun 5 (UNI) Padma Shri Awardee Physician Kutikuppala Surya Rao today said the Andhra Pradesh still had the maximum number of HIV/AIDS cases vis-a- vis other states.
Talking to newspersons here, he said he had been invited to participate in the UN General Assembly's highlevel meeting on HIV/AIDS to be held in New York on June 10 and 11.
Stressing the need for educating the masses about the status of HIV/AIDS patients, he said there should be more humanitarian approach towards the AIDS afflicted. They should be treated with more love and affection, he added.
Over 9.7 million people in the world were in need of Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART) for treating the disease. However, only 30 per cent of them were getting proper treatment, he charged.
He said he had suggested to the UN body free medical tests and the ART medicines to the afflicted.
