New Delhi, Jun 5 (UNI) Aluminium production in the country has gone up to 1,02,317 tonnes in April this year from 99,417 tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
The figures released here are based on the performance of public sector National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO), Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (BALCO), which has 49 per cent Central Government equity, Hindustan Aluminium Company Ltd (HINDALCO) and Madras Aluminium Company Ltd (MALCO).
NALCO sold 33,085 tonnes of alumina/hydrate and exported 4,057 tonnes of aluminium during April 2008, according to the data.
The total value of mineral production covering metalliferrous and industrial minerals, but excluding fuel minerals, minor minerals and atomic minerals, in April 2008 is estimated at Rs 2,592 crore over Rs 1,837 crore for April 2007.
Zinc production totalled 43,290 tonnes in April this year against 32,953 tonnes in the corresponding month of last year.
Copper cathode production by public sector Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL), and private sector, Hindalco Industries Ltd (HINDALCO), (Unit: Birla Copper) and Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd (SIL) in the country, acounted for 53,562 tonnes in April this year compared to 50,616 tonnes in April 2007.
Gold production in April this year was up at 0.728 tonnes from 0.656 tonnes in the corresponding month last year.
Hutti Gold Mines Ltd is the sole unit processing gold from ore stage. Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL), a public sector undertaking, and Hindalco Industries Ltd (HINDALCO), in the private sector, produce gold as a by-product, while processing copper.
