Lucknow, Jun 4 (UNI) In the wake of upcoming monsoon, Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Atul Kumar Gupta today directed state officials to initiate precautionary measures at flood-prone districts and brief the district-based 'flood control stearing groups' regularly The chief secretary, in a meeting here, directed the District Magistrate to take a round of the district and inspect dams and other water bodies that might pose danger and said they should be checked and any crack or breach should be mended in priority.

"About Rs 1.5 crores had been provided to every district, which should be used to the optimum level for fighting against the natural disasters," Mr Gupta said.

He also directed the officials to assure cleaning of sewers and 'nallahs' before the onset of the monsoon, besides doing a 'mock drill' in the flood-prone areas.

A detailed report of requirement of force and motor boats, in case of flood, should be submitted with the concerned department at the earliest, he said.

'Flood booths' should be installed at approachable distances after demarking sensitive areas in the district, he added.

The government had issued directives to install 'flood control centres' at the 22 district headquarters, which would monitor flood situation in the district, besides briefing similar centres at the Centre daily.
