Uma for speedy disposal of Lokayukta cases

Bhopal, June 4 (UNI) Bharatiya Jan Shakti President and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti today demanded that corruption and scam cases pending before the Lokayukta be speedily disposed.

''The Lokayukta establishment is a constitutional, sagacious and impartial probe authority but as no action was taken against the state government's corrupt ministers it is becoming a natural public reaction to question the establishment,'' she said at a press conference here.

Alleging that the regime's stance was uncooperative, Ms Bharti added that was making corruption and scams spiral.

'''Loktantra' (democracy) has changed to 'bhrashttantra','' said the firebrand sadhvi who walked from Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay's statue at Lalghati crossing to the Lokayukta office urging that the state be liberated of corruption and scams.

Ms Bharti alleged that Lokayukta cases were pending against about 20 ministers and added that if timely action had been taken in the dumpers purchase case then Madhya Pradesh's condition would have been different.

Responding to a question on galloping inflation, Ms Bharti blamed the Centre's ''lack of foresight'' and added that some effort by the state government could provide partial relief.

''The time is ripe for every party supporting the dispensation at the Centre to withdraw support in the interest of the poor,'' she felt.
