Kurukshetra, Jun 4 (UNI) Haryana unit of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) today declared that it would resort to every means of agitation against the unusual petrol, diesel and LPG hike of about 10 per cent in a bid within 6 months.
''We will not sit idle if the hike in petrol-products announced by the UPA government today is not rolled back soon,'' said Mr Ashok Arora, president of the Haryana INLD and the former state transport minister in a press conference here.
Mr Arora described the step of the UPA government as ''anti-people and anti-poor'' adding that ''it will crush the lower middle class and the farming community alike as other consumer items will also become dear as the transport rate will also go up.'' The state unit has directed all the district and block units to prepare their agitational programmes to pressurise the Centre for roll back on petroleum product hike.
Later, the Thanesar branch of the INLD held a demonstration in the bazaars and burnt the effigy of the UPA government to mark their protest against the petroleum hike.
