Patna, Jun 4 (UNI) Coming down heavily on the Congress-led UPA government for a hike in fuel prices, Bihar unit of the CPI(M) today announced to observe a protest week from tomorrow by exhorting the people to launch a movement against the increase.

Party's state council secretary Badri Narayan Lal said here that the new hike in the fuel prices would ultimately affect the consumers already facing the pangs of price rise in essential commodities.

He alleged that the UPA government had failed to check inflation and now the fuel price hike would automatically escalate the prices of other commodities.

He said the alternatives suggested by the CPI(M) to check the inflation and rising prices were set aside by the UPA government and now the party has decided to observe nationwide protest week from tomorrow.

Meanwhile, JD(U) had also put the Centre under scanner for the soaring prices and that of the fuel.

Party general secretary Javed Raza said commonmen were under tremendous pressure due to rising prices of essential commodities and the increase in the prices of petroleum products have put additional burden on them.

He said it would further escalate the prices of essential commodities and dubbed it as a hidden agenda of the UPA. He said that the UPA government had no right to continue as it has failed on all fronts and Dr Manmohan Singh should step down owing moral responsibility.

The BJP also criticised the UPA on the issue as its state general secretary Rajendra Prasad Gupta and others said the people would teach a lesson to the UPA government in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
