Patna, June 4: The Centre has decided to establish a Regional Institute of Paramedical Science (RIPS), the first of its kind in the eastern region here at Agamkuan.
Official sources said here today that the Centre had already given the nod for setting up IIT at Bihta, AIIMS at Phulwarisharif, Chandragupta Institute of Management (CIMP) on the line of the country's most prestigious IIM(A), Chanakya National Law University and Aryabhatt Professional University with Mithapur in the state capital as educational hub.
The proposed Para-Medical Institute would start functioning from a makeshift campus at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital from the third week of August.
Later, it will have its own permament campus here at Agamkuan, the sources added.
''The Union Health Ministry is planning to set up six Paramedical Institutes across the country and the RIPS-Patna is one of them,'' the sources said, adding that it will have an intake of 330 students in 11 different coureses of two years duration with the eligibility criteria of 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional.
