BJP denounces petroleum price hike
New Delhi, Jun 4 (UNI) The BJP today criticised the decision of the Congress-led UPA government on the fuel price hike and said the party would organise agitation at the national level to protest the hike which will soar inflation.
BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the BJP failed to understand why the government did not think of revenue neutralisation before taking the decision to hurt the common man.
The government had taken only a ''half hearted'' initiative to reduce customs duty to five per cent from ten per cent. This could have been extended to import duty and sales tax also. Such taxation measures would only enrich the coffers of the government and the oil companies while inflicting miseries on the common masses.
The Cabinet increased the prices of petrol by Rs 5, diesel by Rs 3 and domestic LPG by Rs 50 per cylinder this morning.
