4 killed in fire at Srinagar

Srinagar June 4: A minor and Jammu and Kashmir Police constable were killed, nine others wounded and a shopping complex was gutted in the Kashmir division overnight, official sources said today.

They said constable Showkat Ahmad was critically wounded when he fell from a police Gypsy at main chowk, Badgam, in the central Kashmir. He was immediately rushed to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) at Soura where he died.

A minor boy Zahid Ahmad Sheikh was killed on the spot after a tipper hit him at Ganaie Mohalla in Badgam.

They said a motorcyclist Ghulam Mohiuddin was killed when a vehicle hit him near Ganeshpora, Ashmuqam in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.

At least nine passengers were injured, one of them critically when a vehicle, in which they were travelling overturned at Banoora, Pulwama. A pedestrain Mohammad Akram Rather was also hit, they said adding he later died on the way to hospital. The injured were hospitalised.

Fire broke out in the commercial complex of Moin-ul- Islam at main market at Leh causing damage to it. The cause of the fire was not known, they added.
