New Delhi, Jun 4 (UNI) Dubbing ''suicidal'' the government decision to hike the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas, the Left parties today called for a dawn-to-dusk bandh tomorrow in West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura as part of their week-long nationwide agitation against the UPA's anti-people policy.
The CPI (M) and the CPI have also decided to organise a bandh on Friday in Tamil Nadu.
CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat told UNI that the state units of the Left-ruled states have already announced the agitation programmes in their respective states.
Mr Karat said the government had made a substantial hike in fuel prices which will have a disastrous effect on the price rise front. Party senior leader Nilotpal Basu, condemning the decision as anti-people move, said this is something which the people of the country don't accept. ''They will definitely give an adequate response,'' he added.
Earlier in a joint statement, the four Left parties said this onslaught on the people came at a time when they were suffering the steep rise of all essential commodities and that it will further aggravate the inflationary situation.
Soon after the government's....picking up from line one, second para of DI 28, POLITICS-LEFT-PETROL HIKE.
