Women's Commission against sending minor girls to convent
Thiruvananthapuram, June 3 (UNI) The Kerala Women's Commission today asked the State Government to take action against those parents who send their daughters below 18 years of age to become nuns.
Talking to reporters here after a meeting, Commission Chairperson Ms Justice Sreedevi said age limit should also be prescribed for women who voluntarily decide to become nuns.
Stating that those who returned from the convent should be rehabilitated, she said family property rights should be assured for nuns.
The commission was of the view that the Government should consider bringing in a legislation in this regard.
