Mumbai, Jun 3 (UNI) The Western Railway (WR) today cancelled five long-distance trains and diverted four others following the ongoing agitation undertaken by the Gujjar community of Rajasthan, who are demanding for their inclusion in Scheduled Tribe quota.
Gujjar protesters blocked traffic on rail routes in the region, forcing the WR authority to cancel five trains -- 9037 Bandra-Gorakhapur Express, 9023 Mumbai Central-Firozpur Express, 2953 Augustkranti Rajdhani Express, 2909 Bandra-Nizammuddin Express and 9019 Bandra-Dehrandun Express, official sources said here today.
Four trains that were diverted through Nadiad rail route included 2951 Rajdhani Express, 2925 Bandra-Amritsar Express, 2925 Paschim Express and 2903 Mumbai Central-Amritsar Express.
The blockade and 'dharna' at the railway station in the state was going on for over a fortnight.
On May 23, more than 20 people were killed in police firing and autopsies on the bodies of firing victims were completed yesterday itself.
Since then, train services have remained disrupted.
