Monsoon, accompanied with thunder, arrives at Kodagu

Madikeri, Karnataka, June 3(UNI) Monsoon, accompanied with thunder and lightning, entered the District, the birthplace of river Cauvery.

Couple of power lines was burnt and telephone links were cut as the lightning added rainfall soaked Madikeri and other places yesterday evening.

Kodagu, which was facing ugly power cuts, had an added setback with the power lines breaking due to lightening.

Low lying areas in many parts and drainage less colonies in other places faced problem as the rain water gushed into houses and open wells. Pedestrians and two wheelers remained off the road and few towns wore deserted look during rain.

Madikeri received 1.65 inches of rainfall at a stretch bring down the heat experienced with mercury touching as high as 32 degree celsius. Last year 165 inches of rainfall was recorded in the district which was highest in the last 14 years with 160 inches registered during 1994.

District administration has geared up to face the onslaughts of monsoon. However, badly maintained roads in the district are causing inconvenience to people.
