Bangalore, June 3(UNI) Himalaya Drug Company, pioneers in contemporization of Ayurveda through the use of scientific research, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Agricultural Sciences, here, to promote collabarative research.
The MoU would facilitate collaborative research on medical herbs and plants with a view to discovering new therapeutic drugs, building a corpus of knowledge on herbs and preserving endangered herbs and plants.
The MoU was signed by the UAS Vice Chancellor Dr P G Chengappa and Himalaya Drug Company Executive Director (R and D) S K Mitra.
Dr Mitra, addressing newspersons here, said that The tie-up would leverage the academic resources and research capabilities of the UAS and the R and D strength of Himalaya to promote better understanding of herbs, their actions and benefits and hopefully develop new therapeutic drugs that would benefit a large number of people.
Under the 5-year agreement, Himalaya would take up research based projects on location specific problems and prepare joint research projects beneficial to both parties.
Dr Chengappa said that the University would provide necessary information and research guidance to set up a repository and diversified group of plants with special reference to rare, endemic, endangered, ornamental, medicinal and economic plants.
