Mumbai, Jun 2: Dejected after losing a thrilling IPL final to the Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni rued the lack of bowling options in his team.
''I don't want to pinpoint any particular player. I agree that we made a few mistakes in the field but the main problem was that we had just five bowlers and even if any one of them had a bad day, we had to persist with him,'' Dhoni told mediapersons here after the final yesterday. Dhoni was pleased with the way his teammates put up a spirited fight in the final.''The response from the team members was terrific. Even the players who missed out in earlier matches came out to play their best in this game,'' he stated. ''We played as a team and lost as a team.'' ''In the final we were not up to the mark. We are not unhappy because the match went down to the last ball,'' he added.
The 26-year-old from Jharkhand praised his players for their overall improvement in performance in the IPL.
''I am happy with overall improvement of the team specifically the individual performances. That's what the young players are here to experience - like big tournament and a big crowd.'' Blaming the tough IPL schedule as one of the reasons for the loss Dhoni said,''We had a plan but it does not work at times.
Besides, playing two games in as many days was tough, but we knew this will happen.''
