Nashik, Jun 2 (UNI) Activists of Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) held a 'Rasta Roko' agitation in Kasara Ghat region today.
Angry over dung thrown at a Samata Parishad board here yesterday, 100 to 150 activists of the organisation, held 'Rasta Roko' agitation near Latifwadi in Thane district. Due to the agitation in the Kasara Ghat region, traffic on Mumbai-Agra National Highway was halted for some time, sources said.
Miscreants had thrown dung at a Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad Mahila Aghadi board in Datt Mandir Chowk area in the suburban part of the city, Dwarka Chowk and few more areas. Following this the agitation was held. They also forced shopkeepers to close their shops. The agitators damaged few buses by pelting stones.
Later the traffic jam on the Highway was cleared. Agitating activists were held by Thane Rural Police.
The situation in Nashik city and other parts of the district was stated to be peaceful.
