Geelani again put under house

Srinagar, June 2 (UNI) Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani was again put under house arrest to prevent him from attending 24th anniversary of Golden Temple at Amritsar.

Official sources said Mr Geelani has been asked not to leave his Hyderpora house till further orders.

The amalgam chairman, who was put under house arrest for two hours yesterday, was released in the afternoon.

A spokesman of the HC Aiyaz Akbar told UNI that a large number of police personnel have been deployed outside the house of Mr Geelani, who was scheduled to leave for Delhi on way to Amrtisar today.

He said a senior police officer from police station Humhama also informed Mr Geelani that he cannot leave the Valley. This, he said, is for the first time, that the Hurriyat chairman was not allowed to visit another state.

Mr Akbar said he was scheduled to attend a seminar organised by the Dal Khalsa on the 24th anniversary of Army raid on Golden Temple at Amritsar.

He said Mr Geelani was invited as chief guest by Dal Khalsa president Kanwar Paul.

Mr Geelani had confirmed air ticket and was scheduled to leave for Delhi today, Mr Akbar said, adding he was scheduled to travel by train to Amritsar to attend the anniversary on June 4.
