Jalandhar, June 1 (UNI) Communist Party Marxist Punjab (CPM Punjab) today decided to hold 'Save Democracy' convention on June 18 here to ''voice public resentment against large-scale malpractices by ruling Akali Dal-BJP alliance to win Panchayat Elections''.
State Committee meeting was held here today in the presidentship of Amarjeet Singh Kular, termed these malpractices as ''gross violations of constitutional provisions regarding Panchayati Raj Institutions''.
State Secretary Mangat Ram Pasla told reporters that the meeting also noted that the ''unnecessary delay in elections of Sarpanches to be elected through indirect elections has further aggravated these malpractices and are making democracy a farce''.
The State Committee has also called upon its units to fully support and make success the rallies and demonstrations to be held on June 9 on the call of Nijikaran Virodhi Talmel Committee Punjab, against the privatisation of Education, Health services, Drinking water facilities, Electricity, Roads and Price rise.
