Congress demands para military forces for municipal elections
Chandigarh, Jun 2 (UNI) Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee today submitted a memorandum to the State Election Commissioner for deployment of para-military forces, videography of the entire election process and use of electronic voting machines for the municipal elections scheduled for June 30.
According PPCC general secretary Raj Pal Singh, a delegation of senior Congress leaders led by former PPCC president Mohinder Singh Gill and former Deputy Speaker S Nasib Singh Gill met State Election Commissioner A K Dubey in his office and put forth these demands in a detailed memorandum citing examples of rigging and violence in the recently concluded elections of Panchayati Raj Institutions.
''The State Election Commissioner accepted the demand for use of Electronic Voting Machines and has also agreed to recommend the deployment of para-military forces for free and fair conduct of municipal elections,'' said Mr Raj Pal Singh.
