Andaman promises assistance for marine fishers during lean season
Port Blair, Jun 02 (UNI) As part of Saving-cum-Relief component programme, a centrally sponsored National Scheme of welfare for fishermen is being implemented by the fisheries department of the Andaman and Nicobar administration with a view to providing financial assistance to the poor marine fishers during the lean season for their livelihood.
As per the norms of the Ceentre, the Andaman aadministration has also laid down some eligibility conditions under the scheme, which fishers will have to qualify, an official release of Andaman's Fisheries Department said here today.
Meanwhile the fishermen community has expressed their happiness over the decision of Andaman and Nicobar administration.
The fishermen of Andaman and Nicobar Islands were demanding for implementation of such schemes as during lean seasons the fishermen were facing huge difficulties in running their family.
'' This will certainly go a long way,'' said Bhima Rao a grassroot fisherman leader told UNI today.
The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has also evolved a guideline for effective implementation of the scheme in these islands.
