Srinagar, June 2 (UNI) A 70-year-old man commited suicide in Jammu and Kashmir where six people, including women, ended their lives and six others made similar attempts during the past one week.

The trend of committing suicide among the people in Kashmir, particularly women and youth, has not stopped despite a fatwa by Muslim Ulema against it.
The Ulema declared it an un-Islamic act and against the teachings of holy Prophet.
A number of religious and social organisations and the main opposition party in the state, the National Conference (NC) have expressed their concern over the increasing rate of suicides in the Kashmir valley.
