Kolkata, Jun 1 (UNI) Customs sleuths at the city airport arrested a passenger and seized fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 9,00,000, police said today.
The movement of Md Javed, who had arrived last night from Bangkok aroused suspicion among the air intelligence officers of the Customs at Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International airport and a frisking yielded 18,000 fake notes of all Rs 500 denomination.
All notes have been sent to RBI for investigation.
Javed could not explain why he had brought the notes. He told the sleuths that he was aksed to carry a packet and a man will contact him on arrival at the airport.
The Customs officials said usually fake notes used to come from Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan, but this was, perhaps, for the first time that a passenger brought in fake notes from Bangkok.
