Singapore, June 1 : Pakistan's Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman General Tariq Majeed has said that U.S- Pakistan defence ties will always remain strong, and that Islamabad is aware of the tough talk by U.S. presidential candidates vis- -vis review of the relationship.

"We have common objectives, shared goals and common commitments, therefore I find no reason why we should not be close - even with a change of U.S. administration," Majeed told a foreign news agency on the sidelines of a security conference.

He said the common goal of fighting terrorism would be the basis of the relationship between the two countries.

Republican nominee John McCain has said that Washington must work with Pakistan to stamp out extremist-run training camps inside Pakistan, while Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has said he would be willing to attack Al Qaeda inside Pakistan without Pakistan's approval.
