Telgi taken to Bangalore
Pune, May 31 (UNI) Prime accused in the inter-state multi-crore fake stamp paper scam Abdul Karim Telgi was today taken to Bangalore by train in connection with a case registered there in 2000.
Following an order, Telgi, who is lodged in Yerwada Jail here, will be produced in a court at Bangalore before Monday. The move was necessitated as the video-conferencing equipment had reportedly been out of order for the past few months.
Telgi, who boarded the train this afternoon, was travelling by it after a gap of five years, jail sources said.
He was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment by the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act Court last year for master-minding the scam.
His sentence could be enhanced to 30 years, if he failed to pay a fine amounting to Rs 250 crore, they added.
