New Delhi, May 31 (UNI) A 17-year-old Class XII student attempted suicide by shooting herself after her marriage proposal was allegedly turned down by a boy in the Mayur Vihar area of east Delhi this afternoon.
The girl has been admitted to the Metro Super Speciality Hospital in Noida in a critical condition, said the police.
The incident took place in a park in Mayur Vihar Phase III, where the families of the boy and girl had assembled to 'sort out the matter'.
When the boy turned down the proposal the girl ran out of the park and after taking out her father's licensed pistol from the car's dashboard and shot herself at head.
She was immediately rushed by the family to the Noida hospital where doctor said she was in a serious state.
The boy's mother later told the media that her son was forced to turn down the proposal of the girl.
The girl, a student of a private school in Noida Sector 56 and the boy, Hitesh Lahoria -- a dropout of the same school -- were having an affair for the last two yaers and the girl's family opposed their match as the boy was now working as a mechanic.
The girl's family was well off and her father Virendra Maurya was a real estate agent.
Police said it was interrogating both the families and will register the case after that.
