Lahore, May 31 : Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has refuted press reports suggesting his resignation, saying that he would continue to perform his duties as the head of the state.

He said that such reports were emerging from Lahore, where one political party (read PML-N) was giving air to false reports about his stepping down.

Speaking informally at a dinner hosted in his honour by Senator Nisar Memon in Islamabad, Musharraf said the present government should succeed as its continuance is in the national interest.

He said he wanted to see the present government complete its tenure as it had the mandate of the people, and added that he would extend full support to the government, reported the Daily Times.

Those present at the dinner, which was attended by 20 Senators belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid, said that the President urged the politicians to concentrate on national affairs.
