Dhar, MP, May 31 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Congress President Suresh Pachouri said massive raids conducted by the Income Tax department on the premises of government officials and other people has proved charges levelled against BJP leaders.
''Political leaders and government officials are sunk in corruption. The Congress has made complaints in this regard on several occasions,'' Mr Pachouri told reporters here last night.
He said corruption was at its peak despite the fact the state was reeling under a debt of Rs 52,000 crore. The government was attempting to mislead people by presenting wrong facts.
Mr Pachouri alleged that the BJP -- which came to power on the poll planks of power, water and roads -- did nothing in its four year rule.
He said public was fed up with false promises and announcements of the BJP. He said the BJP would have to pay its price in the upcoming state assembly elections and the Congress would form a government next time.
Replying to a question, Mr Pachouri said the party had been hurt by Karnataka poll results but it has not been demoralised.
Vidhan Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh and other states would be fought under the leadership of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
The Congress leader said the party would provide tickets to candidates well in time so that they could get enough space for campaigning.
He said he would contest from the place where the party decides.
Mr Pachouri said the Congress has tradition of party legislators selecting its leader and the tradition would be continued during the next assembly election.
