Centre seeks land from TN for setting up 3 varsities
Chennai, May 31: The Centre has asked the Tamil Nadu Government to provide land free of cost to set up three universities in the State, including the World Class University in Coimbatore.
After Chief Minister M Karunanidhi met Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh in Delhi and discussed about the setting up of the central universities, the latter wrote to him on May 23, expressing the Centre's willingness to set up the varsities.
Accordingly, the Centre would set up the World Class University in Coimbatore, an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Tiruchirapalli and Central University in Tiruvarur, the home town of Mr Karunanidhi.
Mr Singh, in the letter, said the State Government should identify land and give it free of cost to the Centre for setting up the universities, an official release here said.
