Kendrapada, May 30 (UNI) She not only had to pay a heavy price but also had to see the animal devouring the sweets she had fondly kept for her family.
The village panchayat adjudging the case slapped a fine of Rs 101 on the woman holding her guilty of beating the pet cat.
According to the villagers the spouse of one Akhaya Nayak, a resident of Ekarukha village under Jamugaon Gram panchayat in Nuagaon block, allegedly thrashed the pet cat of one Rabindra Nayak, on last Sunday as the feline consumed the sweets.
The woman also went to the house of Rabindra and hit the pet cat with a stick when it took shelter in the master's house. Rabindra's son protested such barbaric act.
Later, both the family members brought the matter before the village panchayat and asked it to intervene or else they would go to police station.
A meeting was organised on Tuesday at the village in the presence of village head, sarpanch, ward members and other panchayat members where the woman was asked to pay a fine of Rs 101 for entering Rabindra's house and hitting the cat with a stick.
The village panchayat also imposed a fine of Rs 20 on the son of Rabindra's son for abusing the woman.
