Watson, Yusuf Pathan take Rajasthan Royals to 192 for nine

By Staff

Mumbai, May 30 (UNI) Shane Watson showed why he is regarded so highly in this inaugural DLF Indian Premier League with another brilliant batting performance as he smashed a 29 ball 52 along with Yusuf Pathan who cracked a 21 ball 45 propelling Rajasthan Royals to a massive score of 192 for 9 wickets against Delhi Daredevils in the first semi-final being played at the Wankhede stadium here tonight.

Delhi Daredevils will now need to score at over nine and a half runs per over to win the first semifinal and book a place in the final.

Putting into bat by the Delhi Daredevils, skipper Virender Sehwag, Graeme Smith and Swapnil Asnodkar started off slowly with Glenn McGrath bowling a brilliant first over to Smith with only one run coming from a wide ball down the leg side.

Asif who shared the new ball with McGrath was then glanced to the fine leg fence by Graeme Smith for the first four of the match, but the South African opener was nearly undone by a brilliant piece of fielding by Shikhar Dhawan. Smith played the ball onto the off side and ran for a quick single, however, Shikhar Dhawan coming in from the covers swooped on the ball and threw down the stumps at the non-strikers end with Smith just making his ground.

Smith, however in taking that run aggravated an hamstring injury and had to call for a runner in Mohd Kaif.

Asnodkar then took it upon himself to kickstart the innings targeting Mohd Asif whom he took for three boundaries in the bowler's second over, with Smith following him even as his movements were restricted as the South African took the Australian pace legend Glenn McGrath to the cleaners.

The diminutive Goa opening batsman Asnodkar then survived a chance when Fervez Maharoof dropped him at fine leg of Yo Mahesh and then let the ball go for a boundary. Asnodkar was on 23 and Rajasthan Royals on 43-0. Asnodkar then made full use of the opportunity provided smashing Yo Mahesh for a six and a four as Rajasthan stepped up the scoring rate.
