Victims during Gujjar protests cremated under tense mood

Panipat, May 30 (UNI) Amid deployment of heavy police force in Patti-Kaliana area on GT road near Samalkha, where two persons were killed in the wake of Gujjar agitation yesterday, the situation continues to be tense but peaceful.

The victims Pappan and Kuldeep were cremated in the tense atmosphere in their village Patti-Kaliana after their postmortem conducted by a team of three doctors from the PGIMS Rohtak in civil hospital here today.

Besides the police personnel from five other district, two battalions each of CRPF and CISF have reportedly been deployed on the GT road and other points including Railway Stations of Samalkha and Bhodwal Majri.

According to police, seriously injured police Inspector Ratan Singh has been shifted to PGIMS Rohtak and other injured police personnel were being treated here in civil as well as private hospital.

Earlier, a number of Gujjars including leaders from different political parties had assembled in civil hospital to collect the bodies of the victims.

When the agitating Gujjard refused to accept the postmortem done by the doctors of the civil hospital, a team of doctors from PGIMS Rohtak today reached here to conduct the postmortem.

The Gujjar leaders also rejected the government announcement for conduction of inquiry by the Commissioner of Rohtak division and demanded registration of a case under section 302 against those police personnel who had fired at the victims.

They also demanded withdrawal of cases registered against the Gujjars in Samalkha police station.

Police have registered case against about 900 people including former minister, Katar Singh Chhokar, Secretary HPCC Anju Chhokar, under sections 307, 148, 149, 353, 332, 323, 186, 283,436 and 427 of IPC and various sections of arms act in Samalkha police station.

However, no arrests have been made so far, the police said.

INLD supremo and former Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala today reached in the village to condole the death of the victims. Speaking on the occasion, he condemned the incident and extended his party's support to the Gujjar agitation Meanwhile reports were received from various places regarding the Gujjars staging sit-ins, road blockades and rallies. At Keorak in Kaithal districts agitators blocked NH 65 for about two hours.

The protestors raised slogans against the Rajasthan Chief minister Vasundra Raje and burnt her effigy to protest against the killing of Gujars in police firings at various places in Rajasthan .

At Karnal-kaithal road, near Kakot village, protestors cut some trees and obstructed the traffic and raised slogans aginst Rajsthan chief minister.

However, there was no report of any untoward incident during such agitations, official sources said.
