Terrorists planned to explode cylinder bombs

Belgaum, May 30 (UNI) Belgaum Police have unearthed a plot to explode cylinder bombs on the day of polling with the arrest of four suspected terrorists, Inspector General of Police Raghavendra Auradkar revealed today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said Liyakhat Ali Abdulgani Sayyad, who was arrested on May 14, was planning to explode cylinder bombs on May 22, when the third phase of polling was held in Belgaum district, in one of the polling stations at Tilakwadi area.

He along with his partners had successfully tested it in one of the houses in Shinnoli. Liyakhat Ali was also involved in creating fake documents of a vehicle.

Mr Auradkar said the Camp police had arrested one Nasir Liyakhatali Patel and confiscated a hard disk which contained information on preparing the bombs and use of rocket launchers and other weapons. It had also come to light that he had contacts with SIMI.

Police later arrested two more partners of Patel, namely Imtiyaj Dalayat and Nadeem Sayyad on May 28 and confiscated material used for bombs, including Glycerol, Nytric acid, Sulphuric acid, an electronic watch with external wire fitting, a soldering gun, two scissors, quick fix soldering gun, M seal, battery cells, torch lamp and torch bulbs.

Mr Auradkar said it was revealed that SIMI activist Dr Munroz of Ashok Nagar, Belgaum, first came in contact with Liyakhat Ali and inspired him to get into terrorist activities. Later, Liyakhat Ali built his group.

Whether Liyakhat Ali, who was in London, was involved in anti- national activities there also, is being probed, Superintendent of Police Hemant Nimbalkar said, adding FIR has been filed against nine persons.
