Lahore, May 30 : US President's National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley has assured Pakistan's National Security Council Secretary Tariq Aziz that the US would continue to support President Pervez Musharraf.

The US would never accept a situation that could pose a threat to peace in the region, and that the US wanted good relations with the new democratic Pakistani government, as well as with Musharraf, said Hadley.

He told this to Aziz over phone, after he called up the latter to discuss the political and security situation in Pakistan.

Both leaders discussed the prevailing political and security situation in Pakistan during their conversation, which lasted for about 30 minutes, the Daily Times quoted sources as saying.

According to the report, they discussed the war on terror and the rapidly changing political situation in Pakistan. The US security adviser also expressed US concerns over Musharraf's possible resignation, and its subsequent aftermath.
