Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, May 30 (UNI) Police today claimed to have solved the mysterious attack and murder cases which rocked this district with the arrest of a person suffering from mental disorder.

Speaking to mediapersons here, IG K Radhakrishnan said Saravanan (28) of Chidambaram District suffered from bipolar disorder leading to violent behaviour.

He had been nursing a grudge against the people of Kothwalcheri village for having thrashed him when he was moving about suspiciously and decided to vent his ire on the residents.

On May nine, he assaulted one Ravi alias Balasubramanian, his wife and son, all residents of Kothwalcheri, with an iron pipe, inflicting serious injuries on the victims. Balsubramanian succumbed at a hospital.

Similarly, on May 14, he attacked Ravi and his wife, also of the same village, with an iron pipe. Ravi died at the hospital.

The mysterious attacks spread shockwaves among the residents of Kothwalcheri and the surrounding 100 villages prompting them to form vigilante squads.

People started returning home early and traffic ebbed as the evening progressed.

Over 250 police personnel under Cuddalore SP Pradeepkumar fanned out in various parts of the district to catch the mysterious killer who had no identity or did not leave any evidence at the crime spot.

The breakthrough was achieved when police chanced to peruse the files at the Bhuvanagiri police station where a man had been caught for moving in suspcious circumstances.

The pieces in the puzzle fell in place and Saravanan was caught.

A disturbed childhood left him with a bipolar disorder and he had even attempted to murder his mother, the police found during investigations.
