Islamabad, May 30 : Even as speculations about Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's resignation in a day or two are rife, Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro's premature return from a foreign visit has further fuelled the rumours of an impending political upheaval in Pakistan.

In the event of removal or demise of President, it is the Senate Chairman and the National Assembly Speaker who are in line to take over.

Soomro, who had been attending a NATO parliamentary session in Berlin, was originally to return on June 2. However, sources said that he would now return late on Thursday night or early Friday morning, which may imply a possible political change in the country, reported the Daily Times.

"The chairman will return tonight (Thursday)," the paper quoted Senate Deputy Chairman Jan Jamali as telling reporters.

However, an official at the Senate secretary's office said the Chairman was expected to return in two days.
