Kargil, May 30 (UNI) The Kargil station of the All India Radio will soon start broadcasting daily news bulletin in local language and the display of temperature of this arid dessert region in national news bulletins telecast by Doordarshan.
This assurance was given by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Prasar Bharati, B S Lalli at a public meeting, which was also addressed by Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad here today.
Mr Azad also inaugurated the 200 KW high power transmitter of AIR here.
Mr Lalli responding to a demand assured a positive decision within two months on the broadcast of news in local language from the up-graded radio station.
He said the temperature of Kargil along with other cities of the country would also be displayed in the national news bulletins telecast by Doordarshan.
Mr Lalli, while referring to the up-gradation of the radio transmitter from mere 1 KW to 200 KWs, said it would enhance the reach of the radio station whose transmission could now be heard in remotest areas of the region.
He said the quality of transmission would also improve significantly while the transmission time from the AIR Kargil had now been extended from 5 to 10 hours.
He said although it might take some time, the up-gradation of the LPT of Doordarshan was in the pipeline.
The CEO also said local talent would be given full opportunity in the production of programmes in local languages.
He complimented the Chief Minister for his keen interest in the development and extension of radio and television network in the state.
