Kolkata, May 30 (UNI) The West Bengal Congress today said the CPI(M)-led Left Front government's decision to take the farmers into confidence before acquiring their land was like 'putting balm on their injuries' before the Lok Sabha polls.
''We are not against industrialisation and we wrote a letter to Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee that the farmers should have been taken into confidence before acquiring their lands and alternative land should be provided to them, but unfortunately the ruling party turned a blind eye to our proposal,'' Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) working president Pradip Bhattacharjee told newspersons here.
''The ruling party is now putting balm on the peasants' injuries before the LS polls, but the farmers will not accept the Government's land acquisition policy till an alternative arrangement is made,'' he asserted.
The people in general were not with the CPI(M) and the recently concluded Panchayat election result bore an eloquent testimony to this fact, he said.
Cracks had surfaced in the Left Front citadel and it would assume a bigger proportion in near future, he cautioned.
He said the PCC would decide its future course of action with utmost priority in this regard.
