Hockey veterans to play exhibition match in Bhopal on June 10

Bhopal, May 30 (UNI) As part of attempts to bring back the old glory of hockey, an exhibition match would be played between the FIndian Hockey Star and the Madhya Pradesh Hockey veterans here on June 10.

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy chief coach Ashok Kumar told reporters here today former hockey veterans would take part in the match along with the present stars of the game. More than 12 players have been allowed to play in the match.

Both teams would be constituted after approval from other players was received following which announcement of captains would be made.

Sports department director Sanjay Choudhary said preparations have begun for the match to be played in the local T T Nagar stadium.

''Several steps have been taken by the Sports department to uplift hockey and to make the game popular among youth and children in the state. The match is a part of these efforts,'' he said.

Former Indian centre forward Ashok Kumar said several hockey veterans including Ajit Pal Singh, Mohammed Shahid, Aslam Sher Khan, Dhanraj Pillay, Pargat Singh, Inamur Rehman, Zaffar Iqbal, Mer Rianjan Negi, Charles, Syed Ali, Dilip Tirkey, Harvinder Singh, Subodh Khandekar, Shivendra Singh, etc have given their approval for the match.
