Videocon to invest Rs 6,000 cr on hydropower proj

New Delhi, May 29: Videocon Group today said it will invest Rs 6,000 crore in a 1,000-MW hydropower project in Uttarakhand. ''We are planning to invest Rs 6,000 crore in a 1,000-MW hydropower project in Uttarakhand,'' Videocon Group Chairman Venugopal Dhoot told reporters on the sidelines of a conference. The group is in talks with potential partners in the United States for the project, he said.

However, the time frame for completion of the project has not been disclosed yet. Videocon has already invested Rs 400 crore in a manufacturing plant at Kashipur in Uttarakhand. Recently, Videocon came up with a proposal to set up a thermal power plant in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. In addition, the company is also working on gas-based power plant in Rawa in Andhra Pradesh.
