Mumbai, May 29 (UNI) City police have appealed to the people to furnish the identity proof of their tenants to the local police stations.
Talking to reporters here today, Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) chief and Joint Commissioner of Police Hemant Karkera said ''We have alread launched an awareness drive for tenants, asking the owners of house to register the details of the tenants with the local police station, which will enable them to curb leasing of a room to any anti-social elements.
Mr Karkera said in recent past, they had found that anti-social elements were coming into the city and staying in rented houses for couple of months without disclosing their identity. Some times, they were successful in their missions also. To curb this, they had launched the campaign.
He also said local police had already launched the campaign across the city. They were in touch with estate agents and getting numbers of people, who are staying on rental basis.
If anybody failed to furnish the identity proof to local police station, they are liable for six months prison term, he added.
