Cases registered against AP CM, electronic media
Hyderabad, May 29 (UNI) Police today registered cases against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and five television channels, which covered his press meet for ''violation'' of the Representation of People Act.
On a complaint from State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) I V Subba Rao, the Saifabad police registered the case against Chief Minister, who allegedly tried to influence the voters 48 hours before polling, and also five satellite television channels, which broadcast the proceedings live yesterday.
The cases were registered after the Election Commission found that ''there is enough evidence to proceed against the Chief Minister and television channels under section 126 of the Act.'' The Election authorities also directed the Collectors of the bypoll-bound areas to register cases against leaders and television channels in their respective districts for any violation of the Act.
