Lahore, May 29 (UNI) Pakistan coach Geoff Lawson will face his litmus test during the Asia Cup starting next month, PCB Game Development Director Mudassar Nazar has said.

''So far the performance of coach Geoff Lawson has been satisfactory. However, the real test awaits him when Asia's best teams assemble here next month for the Asia Cup,'' Mudassar told mediapersons here yesterday.

''I have played with Lawson and cannot take credit from him for the record wins he brought for Pakistan. But Asia Cup would be his real test because India and Sri Lanka would be here to check his coaching skills,'' he added.

Stating that cross-border rivals India will be the favourites to lift the trophy, Mudassar said, ''considering their present form and fitness India are the favourites. They are doing a good job in all the three departments of the game and Sri Lanka has good batting and bowling.

''I believe in hot conditions fitness would play a vital role and Pakistan's only chance is their home ground and crowd.'' Mudassar was optimistic of the options available to Pakistan in the fast bowling department with the legendary Wasim Akram being asked to attend the national camp to guide the future bowlers. .

''We have some of the best in business attending the camp.

Muhammad Talha and Wahab Riaz are delivering a speed of 140 plus and when the camp concludes they would surely cross 150 mark. We also have potential bowlers in the under-19 team. Amer and Rana are also good prospects,'' he informed.

Meanwhile, Rashid Latif and Ijaz Ahmed have been asigned the responsibility of finding and training players from remote areas.

''We would select young players and provide them education while keeping them at the National Cricket Academy,'' Mudassar added.
