Noida, May 29: In the latest development of the Noida double murder case, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati intervened and assured a CBI probe into the murder. The murder of Aarushi Talwar, a 9th standard student of DPS and the susequent arrest of her father- Dr Rajesh Talwar, shook the country.

Taking suo-motu cognizance of the doubts raised by the bereaved family members over investigation done by the Noida police, Ms Mayawati said ''the letter of recommendation for the CBI probe is being sent to the Centre today.''

On Tuesday, the bail application of Aarushi's father got rejected by the district court. Moreover, Dr Talwar was sent to 3-days police remand. His bail plea was rejected on account of insufficient proof.

Even the UP police handling of the case didn't help matters. The All India Women's Association (AIDWA) demanded a strict action against the Uttar Pradesh Police officials who indulged in ''most objectionable forms of character assassination'' while handling the Aarushi murder case. In a letter to the UP Chief Minister Mayawati, AIDWA President Suhasini Ali said the performance of the state police had been of the worst and lowest kind.
