Srinagar, May 28 (UNI) Two brilliant goals by Mohammad Afaful helped Jharkhand to register a hard fought 3-2 win over Uttar Pradesh (UP) while Madhya Pradesh and Railways shared points with Assam and Mizoram respectively in the 62nd National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy played here today.
Madhya Pradesh and Assam match ended in a goalless draw though both the teams got a number of chances to score. But the forwards muffed the chances.
In the first match of the day, Jharkhand beat Uttar Pradesh 3-2.
Debaab Ratara struck early to grab the lead for the Jharkhand.
However, their joy was short lived as J P Yadav scored the equaliser in the 16th minute for UP when he put the ball into net from top of the scoring circle.
Mohammad Afaful made it 2-1 for Jharkhand when scored a goal in the 36th minute.
It was M Hadiham who levelled the score for UP when he scored a goal in the the 75 minute.
However, Mohammad Afaful struck once again for Jharkhand to make it 3-2 when he scored shortly before the long whistle.
In an another encounter, Mizoram and Railways shared points as their match at Kashmir University ground ended in 1-1 draw.
