Chidambaram opens CBEC meet tomorrow
New Delhi, May 28 (UNI) The two-day annual conference of the Central Board of Excise and Customs begins here tomorrow for appraisal of revenue collection, enforcement and trade facilitation.
The conference, to be attended by chief commissioners and Directors general of the CBEC, will be inaugurated by Finance Minister P Chidambaram.
It will also review progress of automation and discuss measures to raise compliance level in service tax and issues relating to Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
Besides discussing recent developments in international Customs, current trends in smuggling and commercial frauds, the conference will also focus on the CBEC's preparedness in meeting those challenges.
Resolution of disputes and human resource development will also be taken up for the discussion.
Minister of State for Finance (Revenue) S S Palanimanickam will preside over its valedictory function on Friday, an official statement said today.
