Haryana Gujjars block NH, to stop milk, veg supply to Delhi

Panipat, May 27 (UNI) The Gujjar leaders in the state today staged sit-ins, blockades and rallies and decided to stop the supplies of milk and vegetables to Delhi on May 29 as part of the NCR Bandh, in protest against the killing of several Gujjar activists in Rajasthan.

Hundreds of Gujjar community members today blocked the National Highway No 1 (GT Road) at Patti Kalyana village and burnt the effigy of Rajashtan Chief Minister Vashundhara Raje Scindia.

It was only after the SDM Samalkha Virender Singh Sehrawat and DSP Rajeev Deswal reached on the spot and talked with the agitators, who had converged here from villages across the district, that the blockade was lifted.

Later, around hundred aged Gujjar sat on Dharna in the village school adjacent to the G T Road and announced to continue their protest up to May 29 in support of demand for scheduled tribe status to community.

Earlier, a Gujjar panchayat was held in village school premises where the Gujjar leaders criticised the Rajasthan Government for ''killing the protesting Gujjars''.

The panchayat unanimously resolved to support the Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan and demanded dismissal of Rajasthan government as well as registration of a ''case of murder'' against the Rajasthan CM.

The Gujjar leaders in Samalkha decided unanimously to stop the supply of milk and vegetabled to the national capital on May 29 and warned authorities that the agitation would be intensified if things did not improve in Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, the bandh call by Gujjars in Rewari went off peacefully with all the shops in the district remaining closed.

Thousands of Gujjars gathered at Maharana Pratap Chowk and raising slogans for justice with Rajasthan's Gujjars, gave a memorandum to ADC Rewari.
