Govt relaxes cement export ban; to export 2 mln ton from Guj ports
New Delhi, May 27 (UNI) The government has partly relaxed the ban on cement exports, allowing two million tonnes of cement annually from Gujarat ports only, with immediate effect.
The ban was imposed on April 11 this year in order to improve the demand and supply chain in the country.
''The Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has released the notification today. Cement export of two million tonnes will be allowed from Gujarat ports,'' Commerce secretary G K Pillai told reporters here today on the sidelines of a conference.
In the wake of coming monsoons in the country which is a lean period, the government has partly relaxed the ban on the cement export in order to cash in on the situation.
''With the monsoons approaching, there will be a slow down in the demand of cement in the country and hence the part relaxation on the export ban,'' the Secretary said.
